Monitini beats Joliet Catholic for 5A title

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Brandon Pechloff hit Christian Weste with a 12-yard pass and then a two-point conversion with 32 seconds left to help give Montini a 29-28 victory over Joliet Catholic Academy to win the Illinois High School Association Class 5A title.

The teams played Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Champaign.

Montini (10-4) became just the second team in state history to win a football title with four losses. Last year, Elmhurst's Immaculate Conception was first when it won a Class 2A crown.

Pechloff threw for 189 yards and two touchdowns and Nick Campella ran for 122 yards. Joliet, which has 13 state titles, finished 11-3.
