Maryville blanks Brentwood to win Missouri Class 2 championship

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Gavin Talmadge rushed 18 times for 130 yards and a touchdown, and teammate Derek DeMott ran 13 times for 73 yards and two scores on Friday as Maryville beat Brentwood 35-0 in the Missouri Class 2 championship game in St. Louis.

Maryville (14-1) went a step further than last year, when the Spoofhounds lost 10-7 to Clark County in the 2008 title game. The loss snapped an 11-game winning streak for Brentwood (12-2).

Both Talmadge and DeMott entered the game with more than 1,000 yards rushing for the season. They combined for 164 yards and two scores in the first half as Maryville took a 21-0 lead.

Maryville added two more scores in the third quarter on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Marcus Grudzinski to Adam Thomson, and a 1-yard run by DeMott.
