CHICAGO (AP) -- Federal prosecutors say Rod Blagojevich's brother knew about alleged attempts by the former Illinois governor to sell or trade an appointment to the Senate seat Barack Obama gave up when he was elected president.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Chris Neiwoehner told jurors Monday that Robert Blagojevich lied to them when he denied knowing about it.

He says Robert and Rod Blagojevich were trying to get money or a job for the former governor in exchange for the appointment.

Neiwoehner says Robert Blagojevich knew full well that his brother was going to trade the appointment for "something good."

Both brothers have pleaded not guilty to the alleged scheme involving the Senate seat and illegally pressuring people for campaign contributions.
