(KMOV) -- A woman is dead after her legs were crushed by a steel pipe on Friday.
Officials said she lost a lot of blood and died at a hospital a few hours after an incident at Barnes Pipe and Steel Supply in Dupo.
Witnesses say the victim was an independent truck driver. Her semi was loaded with 24-inch steel pipes, ready for transport. A witness said that as crews were securing the heavy load, one of those large pipes rolled off the top of the truck -- falling and crushing the driver standing below.
The 1,000 pound, 30-foot pipe pinned her lower legs. First responders said the victim was alert and conscious while they used a forklift to pry the pipe off of her.
A fellow truck driver described what he saw:
"I heard a bang, and when I looked over, I saw a lady laying on the ground, and everybody hollered for 911," Brian Sanders, an independent truck driver, says. "It hit her leg, and there was a big gash in her legs -- both legs."
Collinsville Police say that the victim's daughter was on her way from Oklahoma to be with her mom.
The company had no comment other than to tell News 4 that employees were still pretty shaken up, even this evening.
