ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The St. Louis Health Department has told operators of a federally funded summer food program to stop distributing products from a fruit cup supplier after a child's fruit cup was found to contain parasites.
Health officials say the fruit cups were part of a meal produced and delivered to St. Louis-area sites by Preferred Meal Systems. The city health department is testing to determine the contaminant and any potential harm it could have on children.
Letters were being sent to parents on Thursday. Meanwhile, the health department is urging parents and guardians to monitor their children's health.
