Man arrested for attempting to steal telephone lines, police searching for accomplice

(KMOV)- Police arrested one man and are searching for a second man who they believe cut down and attempted to steal telephone lines.

Madison County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the 5000 block of Old Alton Road in Granite City, Illinois after recieving a call that two men were cutting down telephone wires.

 At the scene they found down wires and an extension ladder.

Deputies found  Anthony Bazzell, 34 , of Granite City, hiding in a nearby cornfield and taken into custody.

Warrants were issued for Gregory Aulabaugh, 38, of Granite City, who deputies have identified as Bazzell's accomplice in the theft attempt

Aulabaugh was charged in January of this year for stealing telephone wires and also this past May for theft of scrap metal.
