(KMOV) -- A female was stabbed early Wednesday morning while confronting an unknown suspect at her home in Troy, Illinois.
Captain Rob Latrell says the home owner, a woman in her mid 40’s, was alone at the time when she confronted the intruder in her home on the 100 block of Stonebrook Street.
Latrell says police are “aggressively investigating” the case, but it appears to be a random crime and the victim suffered only minor injuries. The victim was treated and released from a local hospital.
Police are not releasing how the suspect got into the home.
Latrell calls this a very rare event in a usually quiet neighborhood and does not want to alarm Troy residents. He does caution them to be aware of their surroundings and take security precautions, such as locking all doors.
Police are not releasing whether the suspect believed the home to be empty, or if he intentionally targeted an occupied home.
