(KMOV) – A Florissant woman was scammed Sunday night by a person claiming to be from Ameren UE.
A woman called informing the victim that due to a billing error her power would be turned off unless she provided information like a credit card number.
The Director of Missouri Customer Service at Ameren UE, Bruce Fritz, says that you will never get a call like this from Ameren UE. A disconnection requires at least two written notices.
Experts say you should never give personal information over the phone unless you initiate the call.
The victim gave the woman her credit card number but became suspicious when the caller told her the card number was invalid and asked her to use a different card.
The victim canceled the credit card and notified her bank of the scam.
