(KMOV) -- The Major Case Squad has released the name of a 15-year-old boy shot to death in Belleville, Illinois.

Marquis Griffin was killed on North 4th Street near Hough City Park around 10:40 p.m. on Sunday.

When police arrived they tried to save the teen, but he died at the scene. Neighbors describe the incident as a drive-by shooting.

Six people were been taken into custody Monday morning, one of them their sole person of interest.

The arrests came after the regional SWAT team surrounded a home near the corner of West Main and North 74th.

The commander of this operation tells News 4 that good detective work led them to the 7200 block of "A" Street where police say the suspect spent the night after the killing.

SWAT was on stand-by in case the suspect was hostile, but detectives took him into custody without a problem.

The arrests were made about five miles from the murder scene on North 4th Street just a few houses away from the St. Clair County Jail.

A commander with the Major Case Squad says his detectives have acted quickly to get the suspected gunman off the streets.

Right now, that gunman is being called a person of interest.

Police believe the other five people in custody are witnesses or may even have been in the car with the shooter.
