(KMOV) – A car drove over a concrete barrier into a fence on the West Florissant overpass over Interstate 70 sending the fence into oncoming traffic below Friday morning.
The decorative fencing is on about ten bridges over I-70 in St. Louis, replacing chain link fences about seven years ago.
MoDOT says no fence is designed to withstand the impact of any vehicle and say the newer fences are just as strong as any other. They were built to protect walkers and make it harder for people to throw things on the interstate.
MoDOT doesn't suspect any unusual problems with the fence but will be conducting an investigation.
