Chess tournaments to be held in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- More high-profile chess play is getting under way in St. Louis.
After recently hosting the U.S. Chess Championship, St. Louis will be the site of the U.S. Women's Championship and U.S. Junior Closed Championship, starting Friday. Play will continue through July 20, with more than $75,300 in prize money available.
The Chess Club and Scholastic Center of St. Louis is hosting the events. The group's executive director, Tony Rich, says in a news release that it's vital to encourage more women and younger people to play chess.
The competition will feature reigning U.S. Women's Champion Anna Zatonskih and current 15-year-old U.S. Junior Champ Ray Robson.
Top-ranked chess player Hikaru Nakamura (hihk-KAR-ruh nahk-UH-mur-uh) will provide some of the commentary.
