Illinois State Trooper, passenger leave hospital after rollover in Metro East

(KMOV) – An Illinois State Trooper and a passenger in a police cruiser have been released from the hospital after sustaining minor injuries when their car was hit by another car and flipped.

This happened at 10:00 Wednesday night in Glen Carbon near Route 162 at Pleasant Ridge Road.

According to police, trooper Phillip Honiak and an intern, Emmarie Snyder, 21, were driving westbound on Illinois Route 162 when a car driven by Dan Briggs, 36, crossed over from the eastbound lanes to the westbound lanes and struck the police car.  Briggs car hit the police car in the drivers side door.  The police car flipped over and landed in a ditch.  Briggs car also landed in the ditch.

Briggs says a car with their high beams on passed him which made him lose site of his lane.

Briggs refused medical treatment.

Briggs has been charged with improper lane usage.
