(KMOV) -- Police tell News 4 that a 21-year-old woman is dead after an accident in south St. Louis.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. on Monday in the 5500 block of Holly Hills just west of South Kingshighway.

The 44-year-old driver of a Chevrolet Trailblazer tells St. Louis police that he was driving north on January Street after stopping at a stop sign. He says that he did not see any cars when he entered the intersection. As he drove into the intersection, his SUV struck a Ford Explorer that was headed east on Holly Hills.

The Explorer slid sideways and hit several parked cars.

The passenger in the Explorer, Ashley Brenner, 21, was ejected from the vehicle. The Explorer then hit a light pole.

Brenner was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Explorer, A 20-year-old man, tells police that he was arguing with Brenner, which caused him to be distracted. That's when he drove through the stop sign at Holly Hills and January.

No one else was injured in the crash.

The investigation into this case is ongoing.
