(KMOV) – St. Louis police confirm that an officer was cut by a suspect Monday night at 9:15 p.m. at 14th Street and Washington Ave.

According to the police, officers were attempting to stop a driver for driving erratically. Officers approached the suspect's vehicle as it was stopped in traffic. The officers approached the car and asked the suspect to get out of the car. The suspect resisted the officers and cut one of the officers with a box cutter. The officers deployed a taser but it had no effect on the suspect.

The 48-year-old white male attempted to drive away but struck a traffic box and was taken into custody by the officers.

The weapon was recovered at the scene.

Officials say the injured officer was taken to Saint Louis University hospital where he was treated and released. The officer had several stitches.

The suspect's name has not been released yet.
