(KMOV) -- The home of a Winfield police officer in legal trouble burned to the ground Sunday night just south of Troy, Missouri.

The home was owned by Bud Chrum. He is charged with buying cocaine while in uniform and is accused of evidence theft and tampering with evidence.

Authorities said the fire began in the basement and was most likely an electrical fire. The fire does not appear to be suspicious.

The officer's wife, daughter, and his father were home at the time. Everyone was able to get out safely.

The home is a total loss.
