(KMOV.com) -- A 5-year-old boy found wet and wandering alone with his dog at a south St. Louis grocery store late Thursday night has been reunited with his mother.
Authorities said the child’s mother called police around 6:30 a.m. to report her child missing. That’s when she learned he had been found at the grocery store the night before.
Police said a security guard saw the boy going in and out of the Schnucks store on Loughborough about 11:15 p.m. Thursday.
When asked, he said is name is Noah. The boy told store workers that he and his dog were hungry, but he did not know his last name or where he lives.
Employees took the child and dog in and gave them something to eat.
Police were called to the scene and by the time they arrived the dog was gone. The boy was initially taken into protective custody, but has since been reunited with his mother. According to police, no criminal action will be taken against the mother, however, there will be strict oversight to ensure the mother and child receive the necessary assistance for a healthy living environment
