(KMOV.com) – Investigators with the Poplar Bluff Police and the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control arrested the individuals responsible for the shooting that occurred on Business Hwy 67 in Poplar Bluff Sunday.

Authorities say James A. Dorris, 37, was taken into custody Sunday and charged with three counts first degree assault, armed criminal action, and endangering the welfare of a child.

Additionally, Heather Dorris, 36, was taken into custody and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say the two traveled through Poplar Bluff from Lugoff, South Carolina.  They were on their way to Bunker, Missouri.

Police said they received a number of calls with information that helped identify the suspects following the broadcast of surveillance footage captured at local businesses right before the shooting.

Authorities expressed their appreciation in a press release on Monday.

“The Poplar Bluff Police Department would like to express our deep appreciation to the area businesses which immediately helped us to capture images from their surveillance video; and to the news media (television, radio, and newspaper) for their help in distributing the information and images.  Without their help, this case would certainly not have been resolved as quickly.”
