HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -– A Harris County, Texas deputy shot and killed a robbery suspect at a gas station on Highway 249, the sheriff’s office said early Monday.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened at a Stripes store on Tomball Parkway just north of Breen Drive.
It was around 1:45 a.m. when a deputy responded to a call about a traffic hazard created by a parked vehicle. A deputy found a car, possibly the suspect's, parked in the roadway in front of the store.
He went in the store and found the suspect holding a female employee by the throat. A male employee was nearby against the wall.
Deputies said the suspect was ordered to stop and show his hands, but instead the man threw money at the deputy and reached into his pocket. The deputy fired his gun once, shooting and killing the robber.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
One longtime customer who frequents the store was visibly upset by the incident.
"This is not a good area for women to be working by themselves, but all they're worried about is their money," said Jeannette. "I told the main manager here just two weeks ago, cause I almost got hit by a car that stole beer, that they needed a male security -- even security in this store."
