(KMOV.com) -- A two-vehicle crash left at least one person seriously injured in the Metro East on Friday afternoon.
The accident happened near the intersection of Keck Road and Route 4 near St. Jacob, Ill. around 4 p.m.
Illinois State Police says James Masterson, the driver of a Chevy pick-up truck, was stopped to turn left onto Keck Road when Michael Zimmerman, the driver of a GMC van, failed to stop and rear-ended the truck.
Zimmerman, a 37-year-old from O'Fallon, Il., was seriously injured, and was entrapped inside his vehicle.
Once rescue crews extricated Zimmerman from his van, he was immediately flown to St. Louis University Hospital by an ARCH Helicopter.
Masterson, a 39-year-old from Pocahontas, Il., was not injured in the crash.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Zimmerman was issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle.
