Feldman: Austin becomes another weapon for Rams, Bradford

(FootballStL) -- The Rams have successfully given Sam Bradford yet another weapon.  After protecting him with LT Jake Long in free agency along with signing TE Jared Cook, they trade up to the 8th pick in the NFL Draft and select 5'8" WR Tavon Austin out of West Virginia.

"I’m going to come to the team and I’m definitely going to work hard," Austin said. "That’s number one. I’m not going to be a distraction. I’m going to come in and play well whether the team needs me to play special teams, running back or slot receiver.”

The Mountaineer defines explosive.  It's been explained to me that he can offer so many different things to the Rams because he can line up in the slot, go in the backfield and take a hand off or even be a return specialist too.

Austin had 288 career receptions for 3,413 yards and 29 touchdowns.  Many compare Austin to speedsters such as Percy Harvin and even St. Louis native Jeremy Maclin.

The Rams gave up their 2nd round pick but also swapped 3rd rounders to make up for the added value.  Teams use a points chart to determine how much each pick is worth.

The 8th pick is worth 1,000 points while pick 16 is worth 600.  That's a difference of 400 that needs to be made up.

The Rams 2nd rounder was worth 420 so that means the Rams would need to receive something back. Hence, swapping spots in the 3rd round.

I would assume the Rams will trade back from pick 22 so they can recoup some of the lost value they had in this trade but that remains to be seen.  From there they can do a whole bunch of different things.

One thing is clear though.  This Rams offense just got much more explosive.
