ST. LOUIS -- The rising Mississippi River has closed some roads in low-lying areas of southeast Missouri as residents prepare for the river’s crest on Friday.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service says more rain is forecast through the weekend.
The weather service in Paducah, Ky., says the Mississippi River is will crest Thursday at 38.1 feet in Chester, where flood stage is 27 feet. Cape Girardeau is forecast to see a crest Friday of about 42 feet, 10 feet above flood stage.
Light rain is forecast to fall in the region Friday through Sunday, with only about a quarter inch possible.
The weather service in St. Louis says the Mississippi River is falling Thursday at all points north of St. Louis, but light rain is expected again on Friday.
