(KMOV.com) -- A roofer who was the subject of a News 4 report last year is now facing criminal charges.
Steve Robert Anderson is charged with unlawful merchandise practice, a class D felony, after police say he took $3,900 from a St. Louis County homeowner but never did any work.
Anderson, 35, was arrested by fraud detectives in April after an investigation into his business.
The victim in the case hired and contracted with a company run by Anderson in August 2012 to replace a roof on his house, located in the 10100 block of Baron Drive in unincorporated St. Louis County.
A $3,900 check was provided by the victim as a down payment, which was deposited into a business account controlled by Anderson. No work was ever performed.
The victim made multiple attempts to contact Anderson’s business, Griffin Roofing and Construction, in order to have the work performed or to obtain a refund, but was unable to make contact. Anderson’s business had a physical presence in Maryland Heights, Missouri at one time, but the office was closed sometime in the fall of 2012.
Anderson is alleged to be responsible for victimizing multiple people in numerous areas within Missouri and Illinois, including many in the St. Louis region.
