ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- Three firefighters were injured as they battled a north St. Louis house fire late Wednesday night.

Firefighters fought flames in the 5200 block of Wren late Wednesday night with fears that the fire which started in a single family home would spread to a neighboring 4-family flat.

Captain Sutter said three firefighters were injured while fighting the fire.  All had minor injuries.  One was hit in the eye with debris and another was struck in the face with debris. They were both treated at the scene.  A third firefighter had a puncture wound and was taken to an area hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
