(KMOV)-- The man who killed a University City police sergeant is sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison.
On Wednesday, a judge took the jury's recommendation of a life sentence for Todd Shepard.
Last month, Shepard was convicted for the killing of Sergeant Michael King. Shepard took the stand in his own defense, saying he was not sorry for the killing and it "felt good."
The county prosecutor said he was disappointed when the jury did not sentence him to die.
The judge said it was one of the most "different" kinds of cases he's seen. Because Shepard took the stand and agreed with just about everything the prosecution said he'd done.
He also contradicted his own expert witness who'd testified that Shepard had delusions.
