(KMOV.com) -- A book, soon to be released, outlines significant new developments about the health of Stan "The Man" Musial.
George Vecsey of the New York Times has written a book called "Stan Musial, An American Life." It will be released in May, 2011. Vecsey reports that Musial has been affected by Alzheimer's Disease since his mid 80s. Musial is 90-years-old now.
Stan's daughter confirmed Vecsey's reports with the St. Louis Post Dispatch. According to her, he is doing well and still knows his family.
Musial has not made many public appearances in recent years, but he did ride in the opening day parade at Busch Stadium this year. He waved to the crowd, but did not get out of the golf cart he was riding in because he has problems with his knees. He also did not miss the chance to do his patented baseball swing.
"The Man" continues to sign autographs at his office and goes out for lunch with his friends nearly every day.
Alzheimer's Disease is a brain disease that causes problems with memory and behavior. The symptoms can be treated, but there is no cure.
