ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Traffic engineers for both the Missouri and Illinois departments of transportation are working on some major projects that will affect drivers’ commutes over the weekend.
In Illinois, Interstate 55/70 will be closed in both directions from Interstate 64 to just west of Illinois Route 203. That closure will allow IDOT to demolish the Railroad Bridge near Exchange Ave.
The Poplar Street Bridge will also present challenges for drivers, as two lanes heading in each direction will be closed. Additionally, the ramps will be closed from the Poplar Street Bridge to I-70 heading west, and from I-55 heading north to the bridge.
Another shutdown that will affect drivers is on Highway 40, where several ramps will be closed between 14th and 8th streets. To add to that, more ramps on Highway 40 will be closed at Broadway, 10th and 11th streets.
Work scheduled on northbound I-270 between I-44 and Rott Road was canceled due to inclement weather. Crews have tentatively resecheduled this work for next weekend.
Most of these projects begin on Friday night and will be finished by rush hour on Monday morning.
