(KMOV) -- A local elementary school was placed on lockdown on Thursday morning after a shooting took place nearby.
According to the Francis Howell School district website, Fairmount Elementary was placed on lockdown after a shooting in a subdivision near the school.
The shooting happened around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. Authorities say that a 15-year-old and an 18-year-old were walking in the Park Charles subdivision when a vehicle pulled up and circled them a couple of times. Then, multiple shots were fired from the vehicle. The two teens were not injured.
Authorities say the suspect was driving a dark red or burgundy sports car. He is described as a white man in his late teens or early 20s. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap. Police say the gun he used in the shooting appeared to be a handgun.
The St. Charles County sheriff’s department is still searching for the suspect.
School officials say the lockdown is a precautionary measure and that law enforcement does not believe there is an immediate threat to the school.
