(KMOV)-- A lightning strike may be to blame for a two-alarm fire in Festus. The fire broke out at the National Education Association Building at 110 Main Street just before 8:00 Monday morning.
Authorities said crews arrived on the scene and found the outside of the building charred and the first floor with heavy smoke.
Fire fighters discovered heavy fire in the basement of the building. The building sustained heavy damage to the basement, stairwell and part of the first floor. c
Authorities said the cause is not suspicious and that it may have been a lightening strike from Sunday night's storm.
No word yet on any injuries.
The buildings date back to the 1800s.
