(KMOV) - Authorities in St. Clair County are hunting for 3 suspects still on the run after a rolling gun battle in the streets of Cahokia that killed a teenager. Tonight, 6 men are charged.
There are 7 suspects total. So far, 4 have been arrested and 6 charged. Deputies say at least 5 cars were involved in the shootout and in 1 car alone they found a pistol, a revolver, a rifle and a shotgun." Captain Steve Johnson with the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office says, "what we're finding out is all these individuals have been involved in numerous shootings in the past in this area."
After the rolling gunfire in the parking lot of the Quick Shop on Camp Jackson Road, the suspects took off and drove to a nearby neighborhood. That's where authorities say they continued shooting at one another. Captain Johnson says, "some of that shootout was captured on security cameras from some of the taverns there. We're still analyzing that but that helped the investigation."
Deputies say all the suspects are from a neighborhood called Parkfield Terrace. St. Clair County Sheriff Mearl Justus says, "I would say it's a hell hole; the hellhole of St. Clair County." He says it's one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the county. "I'm of the opinion you could bring in the national guard and put them on every corner and you'd still have the crime in that area," he says.
The suspects are expected to appear in court sometime in the next 2 weeks.
