SWANSEA, Ill. (KMOV) – A Swansea, Ill. woman was sentenced Friday for food stamp fraud.
Shamika M. Coleman, 33, will spend six months on home confinement with electronic monitoring and five years probation for falsifying statements on federal food stamp applications.
According to authorities, Coleman received over $17,000 in food stamp benefits and $14,226 housing grants during a time in which she was ineligible for public assistance. She underestimated her income by over $100 thousand from January 2007 to August 2009.
Coleman was ordered to pay $31,833 in restitution and $100 for a special assessment. She will also pay for electronic monitoring.
