COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri farmers are planning to expand their corn and soybean crops this year.
A survey by the Missouri Agricultural Statistics Service shows that farmers expect to plant 3.3 million acres of corn in 2011 -- up 5 percent from last year and the second largest amount since 1971.
Missouri farmers are expecting to plant 5.3 million acres of soybeans -- a 3 percent increase over last year.
The number of acres of cotton and winter wheat is also expected to rise this year, while fewer acres are expected to be planted in rice, hay and sorghum.
