ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Cardinals opening day is about much more than just baseball and having fun; it also means big business for the city.
It’s estimated that the Cardinals will have a $300 million economic impact on the St. Louis region this season.
Businesses large and small say the start of baseball season is like flipping on a switch that makes business go from 20 percent to 100 percent.
The difference is so dramatic that Paddy O’s on the south side of Busch Stadium is only open on game days.
Also, many fans travel from out of town, so they spend money on food, hotels and other attractions.
Fans’ spending habits and an estimated three million ticket sales for 2011 make it easy to see that the economic impact of the St. Louis Cardinals during baseball season is a grand slam.
