POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (AP) -- A southeast Missouri man is jailed on suspicion of voluntary manslaughter and probation violation after a man's body was found in Poplar Bluff.
The Poplar Bluff Daily American Republic reports the victim is 68-year-old Roger Easley of Poplar Bluff. His body was found Tuesday morning behind the former Pear Tree Inn.
Authorities believe Easley and another man had a fight. Two people found Easley and called police. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. An autopsy is planned.
Police say a 20-year-old Doniphan man admitted he and Easley fought over marijuana. The suspect told police that he started to drive Easley to a hospital, but a friend convinced him to take him instead to the old hotel site. It wasn't clear why.
Formal charges have not been filed.
