St. Charles County hope synchronized lights will reduce traffic jams

(KMOV)-- St. Charles County wants to reduce traffic congestion during rush hour so it plans to synchronized every traffic signal in the county.

The price tag for installing electronic equipment on all 334 traffic signals will be $5 million.

Some cities in the county sync a few of their own lights but there's no coordination between the cities which leads to a lot of stop and go driving.

County officials say synchronizing stoplights is a cheaper way to tackle traffic congestion than adding more miles of new lanes to existing roads.
