(KMOV) -- Air conditioning repairs has delayed the start of the school year for two weeks at an East St. Louis Middle School.
The East St. Louis School district said thieves stole copper from the air conditioning unit at Younge Middle School and repairs have forced classes to be pushed back until August 30. Parents tell News 4 they didn't find out until today and are outraged.
School board member Carl Officer said they knew about the problem three weeks ago, but the district dragged its heels to fix the problem and to notify parents.
Making matters worse, the copper tubing that the thieves were after remains easily accessible through an open gate.
