WESSINGTON SPRINGS, S.D. (AP) -- A Missouri motorcyclist has died in a collision with a tractor-trailer in South Dakota.
The Highway Patrol says 53-year-old Maynard Jones Sr. of Hazelwood, Mo., was traveling on U.S. Highway 281 near Wessington Springs about 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Jones tried to pass the semi, which was making a left turn, and hit the semi cab.
Jones was thrown from the bike and died at the scene. The semi driver was not hurt.
The crash happened in eastern South Dakota's Jerauld County. Patrol Sgt. Steve Marquardt says Jones was headed in the direction of Sturgis in western South Dakota but it's not immediately known if he was on his way to the annual motorcycle rally behind held there this week.
