(KMOV) -- Crews are working to repair two water main breaks in St. Louis. Police spotted water on Kingshighway around 3:00 a.m. on Friday.
The first break happened at South Kingshighway at Mcree. Water is on the roadway and is blocking the two right lanes.
The second break happened just two blocks from the first at Kingshighway and Northrup.
Southbound Kingshighway is down to just one lane from Manchester to the intersection with I-44.
Crews on the scene say that the heat is to blame for this break. Crews will have to dig up and replace the water main. Work is expected to be completed by Monday morning.
Motorists should consider Vandeventer or Hampton as alternate routes. Motorists should also be aware of possible backups onto I-64 at the Kingshighway exit. If traffic gets too backed up, the city will shut down the Kingshighway ramps to avoid back-ups on the interstates.
Officials say they expect more breaks as the intense heat continues.
