(KMOV) -- Interested in buying a Fiat?
St. Louis and Collinsville, Illinois have been targeted by Chrysler Group LLC to sell the new Fiat 500 when in debuts in the U.S. later this year.
Fiat selected markets it believes will embrace small, compact vehicles.
Current Chrysler dealers have until September 22 to submit proposals. They will have to have separate showrooms for the Fiat vehicles and have staff only selling that brand.
Franchisees will be selected in early October.
Management of Chrysler was turned over to Italian automaker Fiat in the government-financed bankruptcy deal a year ago.
The Fiat 500 is considered a 'minicar' and is very popular in Europe.
Cars sold in the United States will be built in Mexico and equipped with engines made by Chrysler in Michigan.
