Alton: Teacher arrested on multiple charges

(KMOV) -- An East Alton-Wood River High School teacher has been arrested on charges of obstructing justice and harboring a runaway.

Christine M. Scheffel, 41, was taken into custody Sunday night.

Authorities believe Scheffel hid Heather Woodward, 18, for weeks before and after her stepmother, Bonnie Woodward went missing.

Heather Woodward was found July 3.

She is not considered a suspect in the disappearance of Bonnie Woodward.  She was last seen, June 25, by a coworker at Eunice Smith Nursing Home talking to a white man in his early-40's.

Bonnie Woodward remains missing.  If you have any information on her whereabouts call the Alton Police Department.  A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to her discovery.
