There are some new rules of the road in Alton. In the wake of complaints from residents about loud car stereos and motorcyclists, the city’s updated its noise ordinance.
Now anyone caught making too much noise will face a fine and the possibility of losing their car. Alton Police Chief David Hayes says he’s advised his officers to only impound the vehicles of repeat offenders.
Surprisingly, area bike clubs aren’t against the change. In fact, the bikers raised the money needed to create one hundred or so signs to warn motorists of the new rules.
To date, police have issued 37 tickets to bikers in violation of the ordinance and 133 to motor vehicle drivers.
