ST. LOUIS (AP) -- St. Louis Cardinals reliever Jason Motte is being examined for a shoulder problem, a day after issuing consecutive walks.
Manager Tony La Russa says Motte had heat applied to his shoulder between innings Monday, but told the team he was fine before walking Michael Bourn and Anderson Hernandez to start the eighth.
Motte is 3-2 with two saves and a 2.70 ERA in 46 games.
The Cardinals also were awaiting tests results Tuesday on third baseman David Freese, who injured his lower right leg the first game of a minor league rehab with Double-A Springfield. Freese returned to St. Louis to be examined.
