WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (AP) -- Stuart Appleby hit golf's magic number Sunday, shooting a 59 at the Greenbrier Classic.
Appleby is the fifth PGA Tour player to reach the milestone. The Australian's round came less than a month after Paul Goyos had a 59 at John Deere Classic.
The others to shoot 59 were Al Geiberger at the 1977 Memphis Classic, Chip Beck at the 1991 Las Vegas Invitational and David Duval at the 1999 Bob Hope Classic.
Appleby had nine birdies and an eagle in his round of 11 under par at Old White course. He is the first to shoot a 59 on a par-70 course.
The Australian made a 10-foot birdie putt on the 572-yard 17th and finished with an 11-footer on the par-3 18th to finish at 22 under.
