MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (AP) -- A mail carrier was killed when his work truck was hit by a train in southern Illinois.
Investigators say 56-year-old Phillip Beeson of Cisne died at the scene of the accident Tuesday in the northeast corner of the county, near the Wayne County line.
The Canadian National train pushed Beeson's truck nearly 300 yards down the tracks before coming to a stop.
There are no crossing gates or flashing lights at the crossing, which is marked by yield signs.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Hosselton Funeral Home in Cisne.
