Metro-East man accused of hitting, critically injuring friend with baseball bat

(KMOV) -- A Metro-East man has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery after allegedly hitting another man with a baseball bat.
Billie Becoat, 40, of Cottage Hills allegedly hit his friend in the head with the aluminum bat.
Police tell News 4 that Becoat was angry with his friend for not helping him during a bar fight earlier that evening.
Later that evening, police say the friend showed up at Becoat’s house and the two got into a fight. That’s when the friend allegedly took something from Becoat. Becoat got upset and police say he struck his friend with the bat.
The victim is currently in critical condition. Alton police are not releasing his name. The victim faces a misdemeanor theft charge.
