What an incredible honor. Lindbergh High's Spirit of St. Louis Marching Band will be one of 22 high school bands (15 outside California and the only one in Missour) performing next January before the Rose Bowl.
The 200 plus students have a lot of work to do. Fundraising for one thing. But getting ready for that five-and-a-half mile parade route is going to take a great deal of training which starts now... six months before the event.
The band is practicing every Monday through Thursday on pavement for two-and-a-half hours between now and January.
I was out there talking to band member at 9:30 Wednesday morning when it was already 84 degrees with a heat index of 95. Wow. Too bad they can't train in Pasadena, California where it's about 65 degrees.
The kids take plenty of quick water breaks in the shade and they're in shorts and t-shirts and they're outside well before the hottest part of the day.
Enjoy the slide show and video of the kids doing their thing. Good luck and congratulations to them on this honor and this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
