BRENTWOOD, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Police are searching for a man who carjacked a woman at gunpoint in Brentwood Thursday night.

The carjacking happened behind a building located on the 1600 block of South Brentwood Blvd. Police say the suspect approached the woman in a parking lot, displayed a gun, and demanded her vehicle. The woman surrendered her car, and the suspect drove away. The woman was not injured and authorities say she did the right thing by giving her keys to the suspect.

“I’m familiar with the area. I’m here quite often,” said St. Louis resident Melissa McLaurin. “I can’t believe somebody was actually carjacked over there.”

The stolen vehicle has not been located. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Brentwood Police Department.

Two important tips to remember in order to stay safe are to never get in the car with the suspect and, if possible, ask security to walk you to your car.
