(KMOV.com) – 11 local churches said they will serve as safe havens for kids in the Ferguson-Florissant School District after the Grand Jury in the Michael Brown, Jr. case announces its decision.
The churches are preparing by stocking food, and staying in contact with the schools and children’s families.
“There are a group of school teachers who have signed up to volunteer at each of the locations so the students are getting some educational lessons and they’re providing counselors at each of the locations and we have other people that are ready to volunteer, to play music for kids,” said Rev. Steven Lawler with St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
If the announcement comes during the school day, students can be bused directly to churches. If the announcement is made on weekend, parents can bring their children to one of the churches.
