SIUE professor to serve on Ferguson Commission

 EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A professor from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is among 16 people named to a new commission tasked with helping the St. Louis County suburb of Ferguson, Missouri, heal after the fatal police shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown.

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon named members of the Ferguson Commission Tuesday. More than 300 people applied to be on the independent panel.
Members include Truman Robert Carr Jr. The (Alton) Telegraph ( ) reports Carr is a professor and program director at the Department of Public Administration and Policy Analysis. He was also mayor of Hazelwood, Missouri, for three terms.
He says his goal is to build relationships to help Ferguson advance. He says the challenge is to build trust between the public, law enforcement and local government.
