2 Injured in shooting in north St. Louis Saturday morning

(KMOV.com) -- Police say two men are injured following an attempted robbery and shooting in north St. Louis Saturday morning.

The incident occurred in the 5200 block of Highland around 2:40 a.m. Police say the 20-year-old victim was walking home when he was approached by a man who attempted to rob him. The suspect hit the victim on the head with a gun. A struggle ensued and shots were fired.

Police say the victim was hit in the forearm. The gun fell to the ground and the victim picked it up and ran to the 5200 block of Highland where he collapsed.

Police found the suspect on the sidewalk, he sustained a gunshot wound to his jaw and lacerations to his face and head. Officers say they saw the suspect remove possible drugs from his pockets.

The suspect and victim were taken to a hospital. The suspect is listed in stable condition and the victim is listed in serious condition.

 

Police say they found a 9mm handgun at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
