ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A trio of thieves narrowed in on the jewelry department of a Kmart store on Lemay Ferry Road and stole more than $15,000 in fine jewelry. But how they did it was an elaborate plan.
St. Louis County police said the incident occurred last week when the group of three entered the store and split up. Two of the men headed straight for jewelry department and distracted the employee. The third member reached into the jewelry case, taking more than $15,000 worth of merchandise, including high-priced rings.
Back in September, a career shoplifter left with more than $30,000 worth of jewelry. At that time, the shoplifter used a screwdriver to pop locks off of the jewelry cases, according to police. A police officer shot the shoplifter after a struggle in the parking lot.
However, the suspects in this case are still at large and have not been identified.
